Georgia Southern University Students Threatened
It's out of the old Voter-Intimidation playbook. Georgia Southern University Students have been intimidated from voting at the polls in their city elections. But our YDs are not giving up. After years of neglect from many on the Statesboro City Council, GA Southern students were showing up in mass to vote in this year's elections.

YDG Facebook Application Launch: Be A Part Of Something New!
Calling all Creative Folk - As we announced in the last Update, YDG has launched an application on Facebook.com to augment our outreach efforts to young people. This App is being designed as a game to bring in new participans and both engage and inform the youth vote in Georgia.
We're establishing "ranks" that function as levels in the game, but we need your help in naming the 5 levels for the game. Have an idea? Send it to Angela by emailing communications@georgiayds.org.

God Bless the Georgia Supreme Court: Wilson Freed
Civil Rights advocates everywhere heaved a sigh of relief when the Georgia Supreme Court handed down a 4-3 decision to free Genarlow Wilson. The court ordered the release of Wilson who was imprisoned for having consensual oral sex with a fellow teenager and was sentenced to a mandatory 10-year imprisonment.
The Court rules the sentence as violating the Georgia and U.S.Constitution prohibiting "cruel and unusual punishment". You can read the full story in the AJC here: http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/stories/2007/10/26/genarlow_1026.html
Georgia Drought Worsens, GOP Leadership Fails
Jay Bookman from the AJC does a great recap & write-up of our current water crisis in Georgia here: http://www.ajc.com/opinion/content/opinion/bookman/stories/2007/10/31/bookmaned_1101.html
Look for Young Democrats to be heavily involved in next year's legislative session in pressuring our elected officials to take a proactive stance to water conservation and protection.
Hemlock Festival in Dahlonega
Several Young Democrats were on hand at the 2008 Hemlock Festival in Dahlonega this past weekend. See our photos posted on the YDG Facebook Group: http://www.facebook.com/photo_search.php?oid=2204814408&view=all
YDs Phone Bank for Bonnie Byrd Gardner Special Election
Young Democrats have been gathering over the past two weeks to phone bank for Bonnie Byrd Gardner, running for State House District 127, who's in a special election this November 6, 2007. Bonnie will make a great representative for young voters, and deserves our support. If you have family or friends in Lamar, Pike or Upson counties, please ask them to vote for Bonnie this Tuesday!
