Make Your Voice Heard!

Make Your Voice Heard

Do you have an opinion in the health care debate over possible reforms?  Does it make you sick that almost none of the members of Congress from Georgia support such legislation?  Were you emboldened by the President’s speech this evening?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, we ask that you make your voice heard to one or more of your representatives in Congress.

Please call your congressional reps and senators TODAY and let them know you support real health insurance reform.  We've been told that concentrating calls into a single day maximizes the impact so we want to flood the lines in response to the big speech tonight.  It literally takes about 10 seconds per call.

Help us reach the goal for individuals participating and calls made.  If you call, please drop a quick note to NeighborsOFA@gmail.com so they can update the numbers.  If you still think we can wait -

take a look at this video!

D.C. Office:

Hello, Representative/Senator________________'s office.  How may I direct your call?

You:

[1-For YOUR U.S. Representative:]

Hello, my name is___________ and I live in Representative____________’s district.  I’m calling to voice my strong support for Health Care Reform.

Continue message, below.

[2-For Senator Isakson, Senator Chambliss, and all other U.S. Representatives from Georgia:]

Hello, my name is___________ and I'm a Georgian calling Senator/Representative________________ to voice my strong support for Health Care Reform.

Continue message below:

It's urgent for Congress to craft a bill that is meaningful to the lives of Georgians.  And I feel these are the most critical elements:

[Choose the 3 or 4 items that are most important to you]

  • An exchange of competing plans that follow basic rules of fairness and inclusion
  • A public option that sets a minimum bar and holds private insurance companies’ feet to the fire
  • No denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions
  • No dropping of coverage when patients get sick
  • No cost-sharing for preventive care
  • No annual or lifetime caps on coverage
  • No outrageous out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles, or co-pays
  • No gender discrimination
  • Guaranteed policy renewal as long as policyholders pay premiums in full
  • Coverage for young adults up to age 26
  • Corporate responsibility as well as personal responsibility
  • NO ONE IN AMERICA SHOULD GO BROKE BECAUSE THEY GOT SICK!

These are the points I feel affect my family and community.

I urge Senator/Representative________ to work in support of these points and to vote FOR a Health Care Reform bill President Obama can sign by the end of this year.

D.C. Office:

OK, I'll make sure the Senator/Representative gets your message.  Thanks for calling.

You:

Thank you for listening. Have a nice day.

DELIVERY TIPS

  • Be courteous, calm, and to the point.  Speak with a smile. You attract more flies with honey. . .
  • Practice your delivery once or twice OUT LOUD (with a friend if possible).
  • Don't get discouraged if the staff member seems disinterested.  Deliver your message and move on to the next call.  Your call WILL be noted along, with the fact that you SUPPORT Health Care Reform.

Here are the numbers.  Script and more info below if you need it.  Or just call!:
