NEWS
Young, Democrat, and Proud of it!
As mentioned in previous newsletters, I live in a deeply conservative area of GA (and the whole U.S. for that matter). The other day, I'm grocery shopping with friends, and one of them is wearing a t-shirt promoting a Democratic gubernatorial candidate. Lo & behold, a lady stops us because she notices his attire. My friend gives me this look like he's about to be criticized for his liberal beliefs and not sure how to handle it in the produce department of Kroger.
We politely acknowledge her and are pleased to discover she is a democrat too! She told us of how she had recently moved to North GA from ATL and often feels as if she's the only liberal in the county. We talked for about 20 min. exchanging thoughts on the primaries, candidates and the issues.
Before we went our separate ways to finish our shopping, she made sure to tell us how inspired and proud she was to see that young people are paying attention and getting involved with these issues that are affecting GA and our nation as a whole. It made her feel comforted that there are other Dems in the area, that she didn't know existed.
We left Kroger, feeling good, glad that we had made a new friend. In addition, it was an unexpected yet pleasant surprise to get to discuss our thoughts on the candidates with someone who valued and appreciated our opinions. We thanked her for getting our attention and also asked her to keep the momentum going to get out the vote.
So, no matter where you are, don't be afraid to speak up and share your thoughts especially, when you get an unexpected opportunity. The more Dems we discover, talk to, and get to the polls the better! C'mon y'all! We can do this!
Early voting goes on until July 16. Primary Day is July 20.
